Keep the portico at Francisco’s! It was sad enough losing the original business. That building looks more “Western” than most others in Durango.
That veranda provides a nice inviting ambience to walk through and is an enjoyable and pleasurable place to sit or walk under on a hot summer’s day.
All the points the Herald made in its editorial (Feb. 24) were excellent and point on! If a successful business lasting a half a century on the most prominent intersection in Durango doesn’t qualify as historic and part of Durango’s heritage and culture, then what does?
I say change the review guidelines and leave that landmark alone!
