“Chasing Denali” author to talk about search for truth

Ignacio Community Library will host the “Chasing Denali” author visit from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, at the library, 470 Goddard Ave.

The history of mountaineering began on Denali with the legendary story of four gold miners who claimed to have summited after climbing more than 8,000 feet of steep snow and ice, then descended – in a single and incredibly dangerous day in 1910 – all the while lugging a 25-pound, 14-foot flagpole to mark their success.

Was the expedition a success or a hoax? Detailed in his newest book, “Chasing Denali,” Denali expert Jon Waterman chases the truth during his final climb of the mountain and relates his findings in an attempt to solve one of the most colorful mountaineering mysteries ever told.

Waterman will give an in-depth presentation of images, video and storytelling reflecting upon his adventures from 40 years of mountaineering on Denali, North America’s highest mountain.

No advanced registration is required. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
