You've heard of "freezing" the ball on the court?
Tuesday evening, inside the Mancos Performance Center, the court itself was apparently frozen-or at least cold enough to postpone the Bayfield boys' first basketball contest in 2016 until (at present) Jan. 19.
The Blue Jays' gyn awaited necessary replacement parts in order to keep the site warmer than the 30-something temperatures outside in Montezuma County, and was the reason for putting BHS-at-MHS on hold.
The delay could make for an improved non-league contest. Mancos has just five games (three being victories, two in 2A/1A San Juan Basin League action) under its collective belt this winter as of the original fixture, and BHS has six overall.
Mancos is slated to play tomorrow at non-league 2A Center and the Wolverines (1-5, 0-0 3A Intermountain) tonight at home against 4A Durango and tomorrow at 5A Aztec.
Results from the Wolverine girls' home game last night against 5A Farmington (N.M.) Piedra Vista were unavailable at press time. Tonight, Lana Killough's crew is scheduled to sample the SJBL by visiting 2A Telluride.
PITCH ANOTHER SWITCH: And speaking of games rescheduled, Ignacio's anticipated encounter with DHS at Fort Lewis College's Whalen Gymnasium, originally set for Jan. 7, has also been moved to the 19th.
Wintry weather permitting, Chris Valdez's boys and Shane Seibel's girls are scheduled to resume their season tonight at home in SJBL play versus Ridgway. IHS' boys are also slated to travel to 4A Montezuma-Cortez tomorrow for action starting at 2 p.m.
