Chimney Rock Interpretive Association will host an open house from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave., to explain volunteer opportunities at Chimney Rock National Monument.
For more than 20 years, the nonprofit association and its volunteers have shared the story of the ancestral Puebloan people with thousands of visitors through tours and special programs at the monument.
The association must recruit new volunteers each year to meet increased demand in visitation and to replace volunteers who leave the area or can no longer volunteer.
Some of the volunteer positions include: visitor cabin host, mesa host, tour guide and maintenance crew.
This year’s volunteer training will take place April 26 at the Vista Club House, 230 Port Ave., in Pagosa Springs.
