The article “Jack Frost is late again” (Herald, Oct. 29) speaks of changing freeze cycles as being “good and bad.” This is a limited perspective of our changing climate. People comment on more fruit, later flowers, more insects and so forth.
It’s disturbing that a significant change in the planet’s environment is noted in a narrow manner.
Many view the changing climate within the scope of how it affects their neighborhood or perhaps their species. The larger truth is that the carbon humans emit into the atmosphere negatively affects all that lives on the planet.
Species have already succumbed as a result of human impact. Like their response to many events on the planet today, people give up the power they have to take action, accepting the results of human blunders as inevitable. Many have a sense of despair that their actions won’t make a significant difference.
You are not powerless. You can choose to make a difference.
