An injured mountain biker was helicoptered out of the Horse Gulch area Tuesday after crashing on a steep descent.
The man, in his early 50s, on a solo ride, complained of bleeding and an injured left hip, saying he felt intense pain when he moved the hip.
His identity was not released by medics, who are prevented from doing so because of health care privacy laws.
The crash occurred shortly before noon about two-thirds of the way down the Anasazi Descent trail, a steep and slippery link accessible from Telegraph Trail in Horse Gulch, a network of trails southeast of downtown Durango.
Durango Fire & Rescue Authority medics took a Levitator, a one-wheeled gurney made for trails, up to meet him.
He was brought down the mountain to meet a Flight for Life helicopter in the meadow area and flown to Mercy Regional Medical Center.
Without a name, his condition was unavailable Tuesday evening.
