Citizenry, not 9-R, owns old high school building

The time has come to speak truth to power.

Our elected and unelected officials are wasting our money.

We, the residents of La Plata County, own that building known as the old high school and all of the adjacent property. Our ancestors and elders paid for it. It is not the property of some quasi-government entity known as Durango School District 9-R. That entity has never generated its own funds and certainly not enough of its own funds to construct a single structure without the backing of tax dollars. We own it; they do not.

Guess what else we own? We own the money that Durango Fire District wants to expend to buy a building that we already bought. They want to use our money to buy that building ... but we already own that structure. Does this make sense to you yet?

9-R has only one option for the properties which they wish to get rid of and that is to give them to us. We don't have to buy them ... we already did. Most lately, the city wants to buy a hotel to house homeless? What a waste of money! It's our money. None of these entities have a single dollar to their names. It’s time to take them to task.
