City announces fertilization and weed abatement schedule

The City of Durango promotes Best Management Practices in the stewardship of city lands to ensure the safe enjoyment of parks in the community. The city has contracted with Scott’s Pro-Lawn for turf fertilization and noxious weed abatement. Spraying will start April 15 and continue through May 3. Dates are subject to change based on weather conditions.

The herbicide used is called Vessel Broadleaf Herbicide and Q4 Turf Herbicide. Applications improve the quality of rights-of-way, parks and open spaces in the city’s system. The weed control is repeatedly tested and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, and Scott’s Pro-Lawn is licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

The spray schedule is:

Wednesday: Memorial Park, Rio Vista Park and Animas City Park

Thursday: Crestview Park, Historic Tram, Viles Park and Roosa Park

April 20:Hillcrest View Park, Jenkins Ranch Park, common turf area at the Durango Softball complex

April 21: Third Avenue Parkway and Fassbinder Park

April 22: Rotary Park, Downtown Brown, Buckley Park and Chapman Hill turf

April 23: Confluence Park, Santa Rita Park, Whitewater Park

April 27: Greenmount Cemetery

April 28: Rank Park and the turf at the Community Recreation Center

May 3: Devin Hart Memorial field, Riverview Sports Complex, Mason turf and Carnegie building turf
