Before Carl Smith began his rant about forced contributions to unions and taxes (Letters, Herald, March 30), he should have looked at Reynolds’ cartoon (Herald, March 23) and even done a few minutes of review of the facts. The Durango Gun Club pays no rent to the city, so I surmise taxpayers subsidize the club and the activities of the members to the tune of some amount every year and have done so for many years. I am proud of the citizens for taking a stand against forced enrollment in any organization for people who use the gun club. I am also proud of the city for taking a stand to prevent this forced enrollment.
