City of Durango announces Snowdown parade street closures, parking tips

Community members planning to attend the Snowdown parade Friday should be aware of these street closures and parking restrictions:

Fifth Street from Main Avenue to Park Elementary School will be closed beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Traffic will not be permitted along the parade route on Main Avenue, from Fifth to 14th streets, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

College Drive will remain open until 5 p.m. to through-traffic only (no turns onto Main Avenue will be allowed).

All vehicles parked in private lots adjacent to street closures should vacate before 2:30 p.m.

Parking will not be permitted in any private lots, including the Town Plaza Parking lot and the Albertsons parking lot.

Be mindful of “No Parking” signs on parking meters. Vehicles inside the closure areas at the time of the parking closure will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

The Main Avenue Trolley and all Durango Transit loop routes will be free of charge Friday. There will be special shuttle service to the north and south ends of Durango from 3 to 9 p.m.

The south shuttle will serve the transit stop in front of Mercy Regional Medical Center, as well as the corner of Confluence Avenue and Mercado Street in Three Springs (outside the old Digs Restaurant) about every 40 minutes, beginning at 3 p.m. The downtown drop-off location will be the Transit Center on Eighth Street. The final shuttle will depart the Transit Center at 9 p.m.

The north shuttle will run between the Transit Center and the La Plata County Fairgrounds about every 20 minutes beginning at 3 p.m. The final shuttle will depart the Transit Center at 9 p.m.
