The city of Durango is hosting a clothing drive in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, a national day of volunteer service.
Community members are invited to drop off clean scarves, hats and socks (new or gently used) and new cloth face coverings at various city facilities Wednesday to Friday, Jan. 15.
Drop off bins are located at: Durango Community Recreation Center.Durango Police Department.Durango Public Library.Durango City Hall. Clothing items will be distributed from 9 a.m. to noon on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 18, at Manna soup kitchen.
The King holiday was designated as a national day of volunteer service by the King Holiday and Service Act of 1994. Community members are encouraged to pay tribute to the life and works of Martin Luther King Jr. and strengthen their community by participating in service projects on Jan. 18 and throughout the year.
