City of Durango opens community survey about sustainability plan

The city of Durango is beginning the process of updating its Sustainability Plan and has launched a survey to gather community input about priorities and concerns surrounding sustainability and climate change.

The survey is available at www.DurangoGov.org/virtualcityhall until July 31 and will help the city identify sectors and actions to include in the plan.

The overarching goal of the Sustainability Plan is to establish a strategic pathway to meeting communitywide and municipal greenhouse gas emissions and renewable electricity goals adopted by Durango City Council, including:

80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with an interim goal of a 30% reduction by 2030.100% renewable electricity by 2050, with an interim goal of 50% by 2030.In addition, the plan will identify actions to help Durango adapt to projected climate change impacts and improve quality of life for all residents of our community.

This survey is the first in a series of public engagement activities that will take place throughout 2020 to ensure that the Sustainability Plan reflects community priorities and needs as it charts a path toward the achievement of City Council goals. The Sustainability Plan is being developed by city of Durango staff with guidance from a volunteer stakeholder working group.
