City of Durango seeks to renew designation as a Bicycle Friendly Community

The city of Durango has applied to renew its designation as one of the top “Bicycle Friendly Community” in the nation. The recognition comes from The League of American Bicyclists.

The program provides bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond rankings to businesses, communities and universities based on bicycle facilities and programs. There are 488 communities ranked in the nation. Durango is among only 34 with gold designation. Four other Colorado communities have gold rankings, and two – Boulder and Fort Collins – have platinum designation.

Communities must renew their applications every four years. The League of American Bicyclists invites community members to provide their input by taking a survey. The survey will provide context for the review and decision-making process and valuable feedback for the city from bicyclists in the community.

Survey deadline is March 31. To take the survey, visit www.GetAroundDurango.com. Community designations will be announced in May.
