The city of Durango has temporarily relaxed regulations governing on-site parking requirements to help facilitate outdoor business transactions.
An order signed by Interim City Manager Amber Blake allows businesses to use up to 25% of their required on-site parking spaces for seating, merchandise display and conducting transactions with customers. Businesses must continue to abide by state and local orders governing operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses are also required to complete San Juan Basin Public Health’s self-certification form to ensure proper social distancing practices are in place.
The change to the city’s on-site parking policy is intended to encourage safe practices by using more outdoor space for commercial activity.
All properties in commercial, mixed-use and light-industrial zone districts in the city of Durango are eligible to take advantage of this allowance without any additional permitting or review. This order only relates to parking spaces on private property and does not allow any reconfiguration or use of public parking for private purposes. All furnishings and merchandise must be adequately anchored while in use and removed and disinfected at the end of the day.
