City of Durango to begin spring cleanup Monday

Spring cleanup for the city of Durango will take place from Monday through May 9. City crews will move through residential neighborhoods picking up these materials:

Furniture.Large appliances.Scrap metal, drywall, fencing, carpeting, tiles and open dried paint cans.Tree trimmings and branches less than 8 feet in length and less than 8 inches in diameter.Bagged or boxed loose brush and leaves.Items not accepted include tree stumps, rocks, dirt, liquids, concrete, bricks, electronics, batteries and tires. Keep household trash secured in trash cans (not out in the open) for the safety of wildlife. Separate piles of yard waste and scrap metal.

Place materials where trash cans are normally placed in the alley for collection, or curbside in areas of town where there are no alleys. Residents may place items out up to one week before scheduled pickup. Once crews collect along the designated pickup area, they will not return.

Place cleanup items and brush at least 2 feet from fences, trees, bushes, gas meters, hydrants, power poles and connection boxes. If a pile cannot be safely picked up, it will be left in place. Do not block driving lanes or sidewalks.

This service is available to city residents only. Material placed by nonresidents or outside of designated pickup times is considered illegal dumping. Enforcement fines are up to $1,000. To report illegal dumping, call 385-2900.
