City of Durango to host seminars about fat, oils, grease in sewers

The city of Durango Utilities Department invites restaurant owners, managers and staff members to attend one of the upcoming educational seminars about the city’s Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) Program.

The seminars will be held once each day at 8 a.m. starting Monday and running through Jan. 31 at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

All presentations will last about one hour. Attendees will learn best management practices, rules and regulations and what happens if a restaurant violates the FOG Municipal Code.

Fats, oil and grease deposits in sewer mains are the most common cause of sanitary sewer overflows and backups, which are environmentally harmful, inconvenient and costly for affected property owners. These educational seminars will explain the importance of combating the issue at the source.

Space is limited. Reserve a date by signing up at www.DurangoGov.org/FOG, by calling 375-4974 or emailing Jake.Yost@DurangoGov.org.
