What a dilemma the city of Durango presents it’s residents! Dutifully, I go out and shovel the snow off the sidewalk – at my house and often the neighbors’ walks. The neighbor with the snow blower does the walks as well. Then along comes the city plow, and plows in those beautifully cleaned sidewalks.
Then, according to the story in the Jan. 3 Herald, we are informed that, although the city has sabotaged our hard work, the code-enforcement officer can come along and place a lien on our property until the $50-$75 fee to clean up the sidewalks, which we already cleaned (and stood by helplessly while the city plows covered them up) are cleaned by the city, thus fining property owners for the city actions. This is not new. ’Tis an annual event. But we’re not getting any younger and, ahhh, my aching back. Seems like the city has come up with a clever scam!
