City should restore the Arc of History

I have to wonder at the reasoning of the Durango Arts Commission to abandon the Arc of History, in part, to avoid “sending the message” that vandals could damage city property and the city would just repair it.

Is this city policy? Of course not. If a patrol car is seriously vandalized requiring expensive repairs, does the city abandon it to avoid “sending a message” to vandals that it won’t repair vandalism, leaving the police down one car in perpetuity?

Does obscene graffiti remain on city buildings to “send a message” to the vandals? Frankly, as to the cost, its all a bit murky but it seems that the city purchased insurance. Why not restore the Arc to the extent covered by the insurance and send a defiant message to vandals? Restore the Arc.
