City to conduct turf, noxious weed maintenance

The city of Durango will conduct turf fertilization and weed abatement starting Monday at several residential locations and parks.

The city will be apply turf fertilizer and spot weed abatement Monday through Friday at: Jenkins Ranch Park, Durango Community Recreation Center, Devin Hart Memorial Field, Folsom Park, Needham Elementary and Fanto Park.

The city contracted with Horizon Environmental Services and will conduct noxious weed abatement through Aug. 3 at locations, including: the Animas River Trail corridor, the hard-surface trail at the Highbridge River access, Florida Road Trail, Hawks Nest Open Space and the Police substation at Three Springs. Herbicides to be used include Panoramic 2SL, Milestone and 2,4-D Amine.

Horizon Environmental Services is licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture, and weed control has been tested and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency.
