Meters throughout downtown have changed from the past year and now feature a few more options such as “Smart Cards” and credit cards. The city is working to install Wi-Fi downtown to operate the credit card-enabled meters.
The city of Durango will be installing Wi-Fi in the downtown corridor to provide service to its new credit card-enabled parking meters.
However, a commercial vendor has yet to be selected to provide and manage the wireless Internet service.
The city also is considering extending this service beyond the parking meters to provide free Wi-Fi access for foot traffic and patrons of adjacent downtown businesses, according to a Durango Business Improvement District news release.
Durango BID has created a survey for feedback.
