Offering a trip down memory lane, So Good for the Soul, a Tribute to Motown, comes to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, Thursday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. The dance floor will be open.
Featuring a cast of eight veteran entertainers plus a live band, So Good for the Soul is a non-stop, high energy show celebrating the best of the best from Berry Gordy's Detroit hit-making factory.
The classic Motown Sound is recreated down to the slightest vocal and musical nuances to emulate American music icons such as Marvin Gaye and Tammie Terrell, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Gladys Knight and The Pips, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Mary Wells, and more. The look and feel of authenticity extends to costumes from Tony Award winning designer Evie Ross and classic Motown choreography from American Dance Theater director Terri Giordano.
So Good for the Soul's play list features nearly 30 hits including "My Girl," "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," "Reach Out," "Shop Around," "Dancin' In The Street," "Stop, In The Name Of Love," "Ain't Nothin' Like The Real Thing," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and "Uptight."
The accomplished cast includes former members of The Jones, Main Ingredient, The Spinners and The Marvelettes, as well as Broadway-savvy performers who enjoyed leading roles in Dream Girls, Your Arms Too Short to Box With God, Porgy & Bess and Showboat.
CBS Entertainment News said, "This show covered all of the great Motown artists with spot-on vocals and dance - going back to the early days of Stevie Wonder and including some of the greatest icons like the Tops, the Temps, Smokey, The Supremes and too many others to mention. What an era! What a show!"
