Clean up and get down

There are two events to remind you about that are coming up soon. First is the 22nd annual Downtown Clean Day, where we clean up downtown before summer gets rolling. Second is tickets are going on sale for the San Juan Brewfest on June 1, where we get down with amazing beers and music for United Way of Southwest Colorado.

Downtown Clean Day is a partnership between the Durango Business Improvement District and the Durango Chamber of Commerce. For 22 years, both organizations have been coming together with 100 volunteers to make downtown look its best for the start of the summer season.

Please join us at 8:30 a.m. May 23 at the parking lot for Keller Williams Realty Southwest Associates, located just north of Seventh Street and Main Avenue. Doughnuts, coffee, water, work gloves and cleaning supplies will be available for you. You can come as a team with friends or co-workers, or come by yourself. We ask that all Downtown Clean Day volunteers register in advance at web.durangobusiness.org/events. Scroll down on the calendar to May 23 and click on 22nd Annual Downtown Clean Day.

There will be prizes for teams and individuals who register in advance, as well as prizes for the most trash collected. Thank you in advance for helping us make our beloved downtown look its best!

After cleaning up, it’s now time to get down at the San Juan Brewfest. Tickets for the best beer tasting festival in the Four Corners go on sale at 10 a.m. June 1 (local time). This year marks the 26th year for the San Juan Brewfest.

The Brewfest first and foremost is a fundraiser for United Way of Southwest Colorado. In fact, the Brewfest is our local United Way’s best annual fundraiser. It includes unlimited tastings of amazing craft beers from up to 35 breweries from around the nation. Not to mention live music curated by the Animas City Theatre crew. The San Juan Brewfest is a great party for a great cause.

The dates for the Brewfest this year are Aug. 22 and Aug. 23. Tickets for Aug. 22 are discounted by 20% and only cost $40. Tickets for Aug. 23 sell for $50, and there is a VIP option available for $85. VIPs get in one hour early and have a meal included with their ticket.

Here is a Brewfest pro tip: If you want a more relaxed experience, get a ticket for Aug. 22. About half as many tickets will be sold for that day, so there will be very little waiting in lines. If you like the big party and an extra hour of it, get a ticket for Aug. 23.

I hope to see you at Downtown Clean Day and at the San Juan Brewfest!
