Midday showers pelted downtown Durango on Tuesday, driving some people under cover after an Independence Day concert in Buckley Park.
The thunderstorm was expected to be short, said Jeff Colton, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Although there were a few more storms developing in the region, the clouds over Durango are expected to dissipate after the sun goes down, he said.
“That will be moving out of there pretty quickly,” he said of the cloud cover.
The storm brought a few lightning strikes but not many, he said.
Colton expected the temperature would continue to rise in Durango during the afternoon and the high would likely be close to 90 degrees.
Thunderstorms could return Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but the chance of rain will be higher next week, he said.
