Code should not be part of our future

As a land owner in La Plata County, I strongly oppose this land use code and zoning act as a whole.

I have read and commented on the monkey site and am extremely disappointed in the new “vision” for our community. Since when have these local government officials decided that it is their responsibility to dictate new rules to the people of this county who pay their salary?

Brad Blake, you ran on the platform of private property rights. This is far from protecting those rights. I turned page after page and it seems to never end. It ranges from dictating height, sight, sound, population, density, landscaping, storage, roads and really? Color?

We the people of La Plata County don’t want to be told by those who don’t pay the taxes on our land how we should live. America (in case you have forgotten) was not founded on the principles that you need the approval of all passers-by and the government to live your life and conduct your business. If I don’t care for the shed my neighbor has, tough, it’s his and not of my concern.

Don’t tell me the code is going to make things better; we have spent four years doing a simple boundary adjustment of a hayfield.

This code should not be a part of our future, as the only people who will want to live under it are ones who have the funds to pay all permits, lawyers and fees.
