Enjoying a bluebird day in Southwest Colorado, hundreds of children and parents gathered in Eagle Park in Bayfield on Saturday for the first annual Spring Fling and Color Run, sponsored by the Bayfield Parent Teacher Student Association.
The highlight of the day was a big color drop at 11:30 a.m. from a La Plata Electric Association bucket. After the drop, if children didn't get enough powder poured on them, they rolled on the ground to get a thorough coating of corn starch.
Midnight Backhand provided the live music afterwards in the park. Other events included kids' games, Bayfield trivia and a silent auction, including the mustang that used to hang in the Bayfield Elementary School entryway. The piece is being removed during the renovation of the campus into a primary school for kindergarten through second grade.
Tanya Halstead Brown and Michelle Hanson were excited to take home the BES mustang.
The event raised about $10,000 for the PTSA, said organizer Amy Davlin. That's a little less than what the group has raised in the past with catalog sales, but they're hoping an annual event could raise more money in the future.
