Assistant State Archaeologist Chris Johnston will teach a class called “Archaeological Practice in Colorado” on Oct. 14 at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.
This eight-hour course is part of the Program for Avocational Archaeological Certification and is open to the public. No prior classes are required.
The course will include a basic summary of the field of archaeology, common terminology and Colorado’s place in North American prehistory. It also will discuss the certification program in detail and the functions of the Colorado Archaeological Society, including interactions with the Office of the State Archaeologist of Colorado. State and federal laws protecting archaeological resources and codes of ethics will also be covered.
Cost for the class is $12.
