COPPER MOUNTAIN – It’s no secret that Colorado’s share of natural beauty and snow are draws for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers, but this weekend the state will be a destination for music lovers from around the nation.
This marks the 10th year for Copper Mountain’s Guitar Town, and as musician John Jorgenson explains, the event is just as much fun for musicians as it is for the people who attend.
“Being our 10th anniversary this year, we’re bringing back all of our favorite guests that we’ve had in the past, like Tommy Emmanuel, Laurence Juber, Albert Lee,” he says. “It’s just going to be a great time.”
Guitar Town kicks off today and goes through Sunday at Copper Mountain Resort. It’s free of charge, but VIP tickets are also available.
David Forbes spent the last few years producing a documentary called, “Turn It UP! A Celebration of The Electric Guitar,” on how guitar music impacts musicians and listeners.
“It does tap into some really deep, emotional places, and I’m so glad that Copper Mountain does this festival every year,” he says. “It’s pretty well known, and very well respected amongst players and fans.”
Jorgenson said the relaxed atmosphere is a great way to catch musicians in their element and at ease with their music.
“It’s probably the biggest assortment of the world’s best guitarists in many different styles,” he says. “People get to hear, like, world-class guitarists having a good time.“
There is growing research that playing and listening to music can improve your health by reducing blood pressure, decreasing stress and even rebuilding neural pathways.
