State law enforcement agents have been given the thumbs-up to hit some targets in the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office shooting range.
On Tuesday, the Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously on a contract that will allow Colorado Bureau of Investigation agents to use the Sheriff’s Office shooting range.
County Administrator Travis Anderson said during a regular commission workshop that no waiver would be required of CBI officials because the agents are law enforcement.
Anderson said CBI had been in contact with the Sheriff’s Office about the range. The agreement further states that CBI agents and sheriff’s deputies would determine scheduling.
During Monday’s meeting, Commissioner Jim Candelaria inquired to ensure that safety and liability measures were present in the agreement.
“Part of the idea of formalizing these agreements is to kind of just make sure that the shooting range is used in a way that’s going to be safe and limit liability,” said County Attorney Stephen Tarnowski.
