Regarding the Clean Power Plan, I would first like to recognize and thank Gov. John Hickenlooper and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for all their work and support of this plan. Although, I believe that more effort and urgency can be placed on the plan.
I know that Colorado has the opportunity to be a front-runner in this movement and be a leader to other states, especially in the Southwest. I think that Colorado needs to be focusing on renewable energy now more than ever.
We have ravaged the natural beauty and the overall air quality of this state enough. Now, it is time to see the copious renewable sources of energy we possess. From the 300 days of sun per year to the windy mountain tops, I know that if we put the progressive and determined minds of Fort Lewis College, Durango, La Plata County and overall Colorado together, we can reduce carbon pollution while generating clean power of the renewable kind.
Also, I believe that we have the opportunity to make this plan a floor one, and not limit ourselves to a ceiling. Our state, knowing that we can be a leader on the Clean Power Plan should not only go above but beyond the federal requirements set. Again, I highlight the urgency and importance of this plan, not only to the country but especially to our state.
