Colorado inmate who died from November assault identified

PUEBLO – An inmate who died at the Colorado State Penitentiary as a result of an assault on Nov. 26 has been identified.

The inmate was 47-year-old Rueben Gonzalez, according to the Fremont County Coroner Randy Keller.

Gonzalez died at the prison the same day as the assault. An autopsy done on Nov. 30 ruled the death a homicide, The Pueblo Chieftain reported Tuesday.

Annie Skinner, a spokesperson for the Colorado Department of Corrections, said the incident is currently being investigated by the Office of the Inspector General and the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
