Colorado Parks and Wildlife to host bird-watching event at Navajo State Park

Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Weminuche Audubon Society will host a bird-watching event beginning at 7 a.m. Sunday at Navajo State Park.

The free event will be held at the park’s Watchable Wildlife Area on the north side of the park just off Colorado Highway 151.

Expert birders from the Audubon Society will lead hourlong walks along the trail near the Piedra River at 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The area holds cottonwood galleries, willows, sage brush and ideal riparian habitat that attracts a variety of birds.

Binoculars and spotting scopes will also be available to use.

A park pass is required. Daily entrance fee is $8 per car, and an annual pass is $80, which is good for all 41 state parks.
