In response to Olin Kane (Letters, Herald, March 16), should New Mexico help with the airport? I think not. At any airport, one is going to see numerous cars from many different states. The La Plata County Airport is in Colorado boundaries. It would not be fair for another state to pay for our local airport. New Mexico does funding for its airports, and La Plata County should do the same. This is the Four Corners area, so of course everyone is going to see license plates from the Southwest states. Many people have to drive to Albuquerque to fly out of a bigger international airport, but no one sees them charging people from out of state. Durango is a tourist area. We need a bigger airport to accommodate the tourists.
This will bring in revenue for the state of Colorado; therefore, the state of Colorado should supply the funding.
