Boise State’s final stretch of a difficult beginning to October comes against Colorado State. The Broncos host the Rams on Saturday then turnaround and host BYU on Thursday. Get through these two games without any hiccups and the Broncos can finally take a breather before a potentially tricky matchup at Wyoming on Oct. 29. Colorado State is looking to build on last week’s comeback win over Utah State as it begins a stretch with three of four on the road.
Boise State pass offense vs. Colorado State’s secondary. Boise State QB Brett Rypien had one of his best games last week against New Mexico throwing for 391 yards and five touchdowns with only seven incompletions. Colorado State’s secondary has been solid, allowing just two teams — Colorado and Northern Colorado — to throw for more than 300 yards this season.
Colorado State: QB Nick Stevens. Starter Collin Hill suffered a torn ACL in the win over Utah State last week, meaning the starting role goes back to Stevens. Stevens won the job in fall camp, but was benched after a poor performance in the season opening loss to Colorado. Stevens led the Rams to a 7-6 record last year, but is just 10 of 28 for 77 yards passing and two interceptions this season.
Boise State: WR Cedrick Wilson. The junior college transfer is becoming the Broncos big-play threat downfield. Wilson is second in the Mountain West averaging more than 82 yards per game receiving and last week had his best game with nine catches for 167 yards and three touchdowns.
Boise State has its highest ranking since concluding the 2011 season at No. 8 in the final poll. ... Colorado State LB Kevin Davis was named Mountain West defensive player of the week after having seven tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery last week vs. Utah State. ... Boise State the only team in the country not to have trailed at any point this season.
