While Colorado may be new to the winemaking arena, it didn’t take long for it to reach California prices for its product.
Canyon Wind Cellars of Palisade is rolling out the first $100 bottle in the state for its 2007 Bordeaux-style blend, called simply IV for the four different grapes it contains. Those are petit verdot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and merlot.
The grapes are picked by hand and then culled for the best clusters of the crop, which is 100-percent estate grown. It’s aged in both new and old American and French oak barrels for two years. It should be rich and a little spicy, with aromas of dark fruit, perfect with steak.
Napa and Sonoma, watch out.
