Colorado woman attempting 100-mile Lake Champlain swim

FERRISBURGH, Vt. – A marathon swimmer from Colorado is trying to swim 100 miles on Lake Champlain without stopping.

Thirty-five-year-old Sarah Thomas of Conifer, Colorado, began the swim around 8 a.m. Monday near Rouses Point, New York. She swam down the lake and swam around an island near Charlotte, Vermont, on Tuesday. Now she’s headed back north. The entire swim is expected to take about 72 hours.

The Marathon Swimmers Federal says if she completes the 100 miles, it would be the longest documented unassisted, current-neutral swim.

Last October, Thomas swam 82-miles across Lake Powell, in Arizona and Utah.

Thomas is being supported by a team of about a dozen.

Thomas stops every half an hour to eat.
