A Bayfield woman, Judy Blaisdell, is heading south this weekend to make repairs to her property in Bayside, Texas.
She thought she could collect a few tubs of items she would distribute at the Bayside Community Center.
That's already grown to dozens of tubs.
"People in this community are so generous and caring and thoughtful," she said. Jay Lynch has offered his office space in downtown Bayfield, and donations have arrived after only a few hours of her request going out on facebook.
"It's so nice to see what people have brought," she said. "I'm amazed at the response. It just made me cry."
Bayside is a small town near Victoria that was in the center of Hurricane Harvey.
Blaisdell said she's taking a truck and flatbed trailer to haul supplies. If she collects more than she can take on this trip, she has heard of other people in the area who are heading to Texas, and they can take any remaining supplies. An employee of the Southern Ute Tribe gathered several donations and filled the back of her car to deliver them on Tuesday.
Blaisdell said she has been told the following supplies are in short supply:
tarps, trash bags, work gloves, bleach, bug spray, first aid supplies, non-perishable food, batteries, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, laundry soap, soap and shampoo, women's sanitary supplies and toilet paper.
"It was a lot for just one morning," Blaisdell said.
Supplies can be donated at Lynch's office at 104 E. Mill St. through Friday.
