DENVER – A Colorado woman was sentenced to 35 years in prison for striking and killing her boyfriend with a car.
Maria Day, 59, of Leadville was convicted in February of killing 55-year-old John Martinez in July 2015, KCNC-TV reports.
Day and Martinez were traveling in Summit County when Martinez got out of the car to walk and Day ran over him, jumping a concrete embankment, authorities said.
Passersby saw Martinez lying beside a concrete wall and called police, who said tire tracks were found on his pants.
He died hours later, officials said.
A video taken from a home belonging to Day’s sister showed Day dropping off her mother before trying to wipe evidence from the car’s front bumper, prosecutors said.
Day then called 911 and said there was an accident and her car had transmission problems, authorities said.
