Although I follow political issues daily, I have never written a letter to the editor before today. I cannot remain silent any longer.
For county treasurer, I support Allison Aichele for the same reasons I oppose Colton Black. I respect honesty and education. Aichele has both; Black has neither. I have found Allison to be open and honest enough to admit her mistakes, and strong enough to correct them. However, I am offended by the rhetoric of Colton Black, who falsely alleges that La Plata County is operating in the red. I am disturbed that he makes allegations that Allison is “being investigated” when in fact, the “investigation” was a mandatory response to his own complaint (and she was totally cleared).
I am miffed that he stands before a rural audience and says he’s going to protect property rights, when, in fact, the treasurer has no authority to do any such thing! Worse yet, he has zero accounting credentials. Allison has an MBA and extensive experience as a CPA.
I see no reason to spend tax dollars to introduce an unqualified upstart to a steep learning curve when Aichele already has the skills to do the job. Further, as a woman, I cannot sit back silently and watch right-wing Trump supporters like Black make one false allegation after another just to get elected. Enough! I ask all La Plata County citizens to join me in keeping Allison Aichele!
