Our La Plata County Fair is next week!
The official dates are Wednesday, Aug. 11, to Sunday, Aug. 15. The week is packed full of fun for the whole family.
Each day, we will have multiple livestock shows in the covered arena, and it is always a wonderful experience to walk through the pavilion and meet our 4-H members and their animals.
Our Exhibit Hall is full of vendors and projects entered from the public, and our Extension Building is full of projects completed by our 4-H members.
We will have more than 150 projects displayed, including shooting sports, welding, photography, cake decorating and quilting. I am so very proud of our 4-H members and all of their hard work and time they have put into their projects.
We are really excited to be able to bring back our 4-H Community BBQ from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, on the Durango/La Plata Senior Center lawn. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it helps fund all of our La Plata County 4-H programs and events.
A special thanks to our four teams that are cooking the best barbecue in town: Crossfire, JAKD Solutions, IKAV and Aztec Well Servicing. The menu this year will be barbecue beef and pork, salad, corn on the cob, bread, dessert and a drink.
So get your pre-sale tickets early at the La Plata County Extension Office and save some money. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and children in advance, and $10 if purchased at the event.
The Junior Livestock Sale is scheduled at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. This is a wonderful way to support our local youths. Many of our hard-working 4-H members use the proceeds of the livestock sale to pay for college.
We will have a live auction for those of you who want to attend in person, and we are continuing to provide a virtual option so you can participate in the livestock auction from anywhere via phone bidding.
