Community celebrates Christmas with girl diagnosed with tumor

Jolean Scott receives visits from Santa, tours of holiday lights

Hundreds of people gathered on Christmas Eve to sing Christmas songs and provide some holiday cheer for the Scott family.

Meeting at the home of a nearby neighbor, they walked to the Scott home and sang Christmas carols to Jolean Scott, 9, and her family. The girl has been diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, an inoperable brain tumor.

Jolean and her family also received a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as from members of the Upper Pine Rive Fire Protection District.

On Dec. 21, members of Upper Pine picked up Jolean and her siblings in a fire truck and gave them a tour of the Christmas lights at Riverside RV Park. Santa Claus also joined in the tour, as well.

Bake sales and silent auctions were held in December to raise funds for the family, as well.

Of a goal of $105,000, $64,652 has been raised online for the Scott family. Donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/a-gift-of-time-for-jolean-scott
