Community encouraged to support local Save the Food, Serve the People project

As the community continues to experience the impacts of COVID-19, Centura Health-Mercy Regional Medical Center has joined with the Good Food Collective, In the Weeds, the Community Foundation Serving Southwest Colorado, La Plata County Senior Center and Celebrating Health Communities to provide meals to La Plata County seniors.

The collective’s Save the Food, Serve the People project supports the La Plata Family Center’s increased need to supply food to seniors living in Durango, Bayfield and Ignacio. The project will also benefit the community by providing monetary stipends to 12 kitchen staff laid off as a result of COVID.

Mercy will match every $1 contributed up to $1,000. For $1,000, the Serve the People project is able to provide 600 prepared meals to La Plata County seniors for one week.

Community members interested in donating should visit tinyurl.com/zbyuqhx. All funds raised will be used for the collective’s COVID-19 emergency food response efforts. Indicate that donated funds be directed to “Good Food Collective COVID Food Fund.”
