Concert series kicks off summer season

Singer-songwriter Michaela Anne will kick off the Concerts @ The Park summer music series at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Buckley Park.

Summer’s here, and it’s time to kick back to a little live music in Buckley Park.

The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College with Alpine Bank are again bringing their Concerts @ The Park series downtown at 5:30 p.m. every Thursday night starting next week and running through July 26.

The performers’ musical styles vary from country to jazz, world fusion, blues and rock.

First up in the series is Nashville progressive indie-country musician Michaela Anne.

The daughter of a military officer, singer-songwriter Michaela Anne grew up moving regularly, which she said helped form her musical profile.

“Growing up, I felt like a chameleon. I wanted to quickly fit in wherever I could. I would look around and figure out whom I needed to be friends with to survive,” she said. “That informed my musical tastes, I liked everything. Depending on who I was hanging out with, that’s what I listened to. My dad loved country and so did I, but I also listened to pop and hip-hop. I was a typical kid of the ’90s and the early oughts.”

The shows are free, and no tickets are necessary.

If you’re planning to go, remember to bring your own chairs and blankets because seating will not be available at Buckley.

You are also invited to pack a picnic, but Fired Up Pizzeria and Mountain Tacos will also be on hand selling small food items.

And because Durango loves its dogs, they’re invited to the shows, too, but they must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
