Confused how this is fixing things

I know that our immigration system was not working, but I’m confused by how the recent changes have fixed any of the problems. To my understanding, one issue was immigrants “cutting in line” or settling in the U.S. illegally. So why are we detaining individuals who received asylum and who are following the rules by showing up to their court dates?

Another issue I’ve heard about for decades (pretty much since Reagan offered amnesty to undocumented residents) was that immigrants were costing our schools and hospitals money paid by taxpayers. But today money is being taken away from our schools and hospitals to go to ICE, to detain immigrants, so isn’t that the same result?

Maybe you’d say it’s a temporary expense to rid our country of criminals, but then why are we building very permanent looking camps? If the whole thing is to make sure that immigrants don’t take jobs away from Americans, hasn’t DOGE taken more jobs from Americans than any other force this year?

I'm really struggling to see whose lives have benefited from the administration's actions.
