I find it deeply disturbing that President Trump decided to re-endorse Congressman Hurd on March 20, and it raises one simple question: What changed?
I’m no political insider, but endorsements are generally the result of aligned interests and shared priorities. Trump originally revoked his endorsement because Hurd voted against some of his more egregious tariff policies. Voters have every right to ask: why did Trump re-endorse Hurd, and how did the congressman win his trust back?
Of particular concern to me is where Hurd stands on funding the war in Iran. Americans have seen the costs of open-ended wars before – we pay in blood, in higher prices at the pump and in taxpayer dollars. With hostilities nearing the one-month mark and Congress considering a $200 billion package to fund the conflict, how much more is the American public expected to shoulder?
Congressman Hurd owes his constituents a clear explanation of his position – and what, exactly, changed between him and the president.
