Construction on the new amenities and improved parking at Santa Rita Park began Wednesday.
The project will include demolition of the former Chamber of Commerce building and parking improvements. The playing field, playground and access to the Animas River will remain open during construction.
The project will replace two lighted sand volleyball courts, a lighted basketball court and picnic shelter displaced during construction of the Santa Rita Water Reclamation Facility. Construction and landscape improvements will be complete in early November.
