Construction to begin on Animas River Trail north extension and Oxbow Park River access

WCA Construction LLC, under contract to the city of Durango, will begin construction mobilization activities for the Animas River Trail North Extension and Oxbow Park River Access project starting Monday, weather permitting.

Mobilization activities will be apparent at Animas City Park and Oxbow Park. Overall project duration will be from March 2019 to May 2020.

A northern extension of the Animas River Trail will be built between Animas City Park and Oxbow Park and Preserve, alongside the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad line. The north end of Animas City Park will be completed as a continuous public park from East 32nd Street to just south of Halto Via Circle. The north extension of the Animas River Trail is being partially funded by a $1.4 million grant from Great Outdoors Colorado.

Oxbow Park is a primary river access point for many river users. To better facilitate river activities that occur at this location, a parking area, restroom building, walkways, boat ramp and other amenities including added park landscaping will be constructed.
