Construction to reinstall features begins at Navajo State Park

Electric and gas services to become available again
Construction at Navajo State Park started Monday to re-install various features, such as the dock, boat slips, store and utility lines after they were taken out early because of concerns about damage.

Construction has started to reinstall the dock, boat slips, store and utility lines at Navajo State Park after they were removed earlier this year for fear of damage.

The features were removed earlier than usual this year because of concerns they would be damaged when the reservoir dropped to record lows.

“We know this was an inconvenience for our boaters, but we appreciate everyone’s patience,” said Brian Sandy, manager of Navajo State Park, in a news release.

Officials said they expect the work, which should improve the lake’s ability to handle low-water conditions, to be completed by Labor Day if all goes as planned, according to a news release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

In addition to the re-installations, gasoline and limited electric service will be available again when the project is finished.

The marina store will no longer be located in the water. It will be moved to the top of the boat ramp, and plans are being made for a new building that will include more facilities and services for park visitors, according to the release.

Crews started working this week.
