It’s been an explosive spring for Franklin Drilling and Blasting.

On Tuesday, the company will demolish a truck-size boulder that fell last week on County Road 243 north of Lemon Dam. The work will begin at 9 a.m., and drivers should expect delays along with temporary road closures throughout the day.

The transition from frozen winter to the spring thaw has the local landscape shifting, resulting in potential damage to roads.

“Melting snowpack and rainfall could cause mudslides and loosen other large objects and debris throughout the region,” according to a news release from La Plata County. “Drivers should be aware of these potential hazards this spring. Road repair is now underway throughout La Plata County as the weather allows.”

Last month, a county road and bridge crew worked with contractors from Franklin to blow up two rocks that had fallen along La Posta Road (County Road 213).

The county reminds drivers to be aware of dangerous road conditions. To report road damage, call 382-6413 or fill out a road repair request form at https://bit.ly/41RxOTt.
