Contractors’ Yard Sale offers deals

Benefits Habitat for Humanity, Home Builders Association

Is your house looking a little tired? Been dreaming of a Jacuzzi to soak away aches and pains? Or maybe the baker in the family would like an oven that heats evenly?

The Contractors’ Yard Sale – where homeowners can get new household appliances, lumber, siding, cabinetry, doors and windows at a steal – will be held Saturday in Three Springs.

“People can get items for 10 to 25 cents on the dollar,” said Rachel Taylor-Saghie, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County, one of the beneficiaries of the day’s proceeds. “It’s an enormous amount of work to move everything here, so we want to sell it all. Otherwise, we’ll have to take it to our Re-Store.”

The event generally raises between $12,000 and $28,000, she said, which is split between Habitat and the Home Builders’ Association of Southwest Colorado.

Credit cards will be accepted. Buyers are encouraged to window-shop early Saturday, Taylor-Saghie said.

“We’re usually here at 6:30 a.m., even though it doesn’t start until 8 a.m.,” she said, “and we’ll find families staking out the items they want.”
