I want to congratulate the City Council on having the courage to approve the controversial bag ordinance. I see very valid points – and respect the passion – on both sides of the issue. In the final analysis, however, I believe that minor “rights” (like the “right” to use throw-away materials) eventually become irrelevant when the cumulative damage of many such “rights” erodes the very foundation of life: the health of our planet. Tough call, council, but well done.
